The journey in five acts

1. Days 1–2 · Zambia

   Victoria Falls

   Met at Livingstone and settled beside the Zambezi. A full day at the falls — Knife-Edge Bridge, the spray, and Devil’s Pool at low water — plus a sunset river cruise among the hippos.

2. Days 3–4 · Botswana

   The Chobe River

   An hour’s transfer across the border to Chobe, where the greatest elephant herds on the continent gather on the river at dusk. Game drives and boat safaris among thousands of them in the gold light.

3. Days 5–7 · Botswana

   The Okavango Delta

   Fly into the delta — a river that never reaches the sea, spread into a glittering maze. Glide the channels by mokoro at water level, track lion and wild dog on the islands, and sleep to the sound of hippo. Two camps, water and land.

4. Days 8–9 · Namibia

   Sossusvlei & Deadvlei

   Fly to the Namib. Climb a dune before dawn as the sun sets fire to the sand, then walk onto the white floor of Deadvlei, where 900-year-old trees stand like ink. The most otherworldly two days of the trip.

5. Days 10–11 · Namibia

   The coast

   Down through the Namib to Swakopmund, then up the fog-bound Skeleton Coast, where the desert walks straight into the Atlantic among shipwrecks and desert-adapted wildlife.

6. Days 12–13 · Namibia

   Etosha

   Fly to the great salt pan for the trip’s classic wildlife finish: lion, elephant and rhino drawn to the waterholes, and floodlit after-dark sightings from camp.
